(Okay, only the worst of them do this, but be aware.)įinally, the single most important tip for this game is to never waste time. They spawn enemies, and the number 1 cause of new player complaints is neglecting these and then getting frustrated as they start spawning undead dragons. They're mentioned in the strategy guide but it bears repeating. Learn to watch for the red-glowing map structures. Archdruid is also nice because their heroes get healing too, and they can summon units with magic which helps a lot to keep your army strength up early on. (Though Draconians do get faster per-turn healing which helps.) Humans have nice priests, Theocrat heroes can learn healing and get lots of healing abilities. You might want to play a class/race combo with access to healing for an easier time. Learn to win those early battles against nearby grey units without taking losses. It's the most fun part of the game, and the hardest. You should probably first focus on getting the hang of the combat system. The official beginner's strategy guide is a great resource and explains what a typical first 10 turns should look like.
